2024 Mazda3

2024 Mazda3

The Mazda3, now in its fourth generation, introduced in 2019, has become a top contender in the compact passenger car segment. US buyers have many options, and the Mazda3 has become a firm favorite for those looking for a sporty compact five-seater passenger vehicle.

Read on as we share with you in more detail what the Mazda3 has to offer prospective buyers.

What's New for 2024?

The Mazda3 continues for 2024 as Mazda's sole gasoline-powered sedan and hatchback.

With Its premium interior design and use of quality materials, the Mazda3 continues with a few notable changes for 2024. Upgrades are seen in the interior, and some pricing changes in the lineup.

The 2024 Mazda3 receives two new trim packages, a Carbon Turbo specification and the Select Sport package, replacing the now-discontinued Select package.

Trim levels available are 2.5 S,  2.5 S Select Sport, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 Carbon Turbo and the range-topper 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus.

Engine options remain as is, with two options for buyers to choose from, but perhaps most importantly, the Mazda3 continues for 2024 with its inherent fun-to-drive persona.

Luxurious Interior Design

The Mazda3 boasts a thoughtfully designed cabin finished with premium materials, with buyers being given options to outfit both sedan and hatchback variants with several luxury and comfort features.

Seating five passengers, the Mazda3 features a standard 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback and adjustable front and rear headrests in all seating positions. Standard seats are black cloth with leather upholstery choices in greige, white or red reserved for the top-of-range trims.

The 2024 Mazda3 is fitted as standard with an 8.8-inch infotainment display placed between soft-touch dash pads. A larger, 10.3-inch display is available only on Turbo models. Both infotainment screens are easy to use with a console-mounted rotary knob. Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, as well as an eight-speaker Mazda Harmonics audio system. Fitment of a 12-speaker Bose stereo system and SiriusXM satellite radio will cost buyers extra.

Standard convenience features abound, such as a dual-zone automatic climate control system, power windows with a one-touch up/down feature, power door locks with speed-sensitive auto door locks plus steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise control switches, front map lights and cargo lights.

Further luxury and convenience interior appointments are trim-dependent, and these are shared in more detail below.

2024 Mazda3 Exterior Styling

The 2024 Mazda3 shows off a flowing bodywork design that reflects Mazda's Kodo design language with an absence of body styling gimmicks, giving the Mazda3 a polished appearance.

Out in front, the 2024 Mazda3 sports auto on/off LED headlights light up the road ahead with LED daytime running lights and at the rear LED combination tail lights.

Modern styling touches such as the front grille in a gloss black finish and a rear roof spoiler in a black finish add to the Mazda3's stylish exterior looks.

Across the Mazda3 range, you can find alloy wheels that are 16 inches to 18 inches in size, fitted with all-season tires.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Two engines are on offer for the 2024 Mazda3. A base naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter SKYACTIV four-cylinder delivering 191 horsepower @ 6000 rpm and 189 pound-feet of torque @ 4000 rpm using 87 octane regular unleaded fuel. The turbocharged version of the same engine produces 250 horsepower @ 500 rpm and 320 pound-feet of torque @ 2500 rpm using 93 octane premium fuel.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, with Mazda i-ACTIV AWD (all-wheel drive) available from the mid-grade Carbon Edition on up and standard equipment on all the turbo trims.

Mazda installs the SKYACTIV-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with manual and sport modes across most of the range. Buyers have the option to select the SKYACTIV-MT 6-speed overdrive transmission exclusively on FWD models.

Technology Features in the 2024 Mazda3

The 2024 Mazda3 shows off Mazda's SKYACTIV technology features in its design.

The engines used in the Mazda3, for example, feature a higher compression ratio than typically seen with redesigned pistons and cylinder heads to increase the efficiency of the engine and power outputs.

For an enhanced driving experience, the Mazda3 is available with the aforementioned AWD system, which is coupled with Mazda's G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC+), and uses predictive power distribution to enhance both grip and cornering when tackling dry or slippery road surfaces.

FWD models also receive the GVC+ system to give added confidence to drivers' on-road experience. The Mazda3 is equipped with Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) rack-and-pinion steering for comfortable steering maneuvers.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Mazda3 sedan was awarded the IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2023, plus the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it a five-star overall safety rating.

The Mazda3 helps ensure occupant safety with its fitted dual front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, side-impact air curtains, and driver's and front passenger's knee airbags.

The 2024 Mazda3 features a comprehensive range of both safety and driver assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with Mazda's stop-and-go system (Mazda Radar Cruise Control), driver attention monitoring, and automatic high beams. Mazda has added blind spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert on all trims above the S.

Select Sport. Drivers of the Turbo models will enjoy features such as traffic sign recognition and steering-adaptive front lighting, whilst buyers opting for the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus will benefit from a 360-degree overhead cam, rear auto-emergency braking, and traffic jam assist.

Fuel Economy

Estimated EPA fuel economy figures for the base 2.5-liter engine with FWD and automatic transmission are 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. The six-speed manual transmission returns similar fuel economy figures.

Opting for AWD, however, sees fuel economy figures of 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined.

Turbo models with the standard fitment of AWD return fuel economy figures of 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined.
