How to Set Up Mazda Apple CarPlay
The easiest way for a first-time user to set up Apple CarPlay in their Mazda is via a lighting to USB cable.
Simply plug your compatible iPhone into the audio integration USB port, and the Mazda Connect feature in your Mazda will start automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to enable Mazda Apple CarPlay. Once you tap "Allow" on the pop-up notification displayed on your iPhone, your Mazda can access Apple CarPlay content on your iPhone without requiring further unlocking.
How to Use Apple CarPlay in Your Mazda
Mazda Apple CarPlay features a user interface that is similar to the home screen on your iPhone. This familiar design allows intuitive access to the phone, music, maps, messages and more.
You can use the Apple CarPlay home screen on your iPhone to rearrange or hide apps. For convenience, all Apple CarPlay functions can be performed using the multi-function Commander control or Siri voice commands.
What is Apple CarPlay?
CarPlay is Apple software that lets you control and view features of your iOS device through your car's radio. Apple CarPlay is available on all iPhone 5 and later Apple devices that are running iOS 7.1 or newer software.
What is Mazda Connect?
Mazda Connect or Mazda Connected Services is a set of connectivity features that allows seamless remote interaction between your Mazda vehicle and any compatible smartphone or device.
Mazda Connect uses your smartphone's Bluetooth technology to provide secure access to a variety of features, including your music playlists, online maps, and phone contacts. With Bluetooth connectivity, you can make hands-free calls, receive texts, and enjoy additional features.
Some of the currently available features of Mazda Connected Services include convenient remote vehicle control such as remote engine start and stop, remote door lock and unlock and remote access to your Mazda's vehicle status report.
Mazda Command Center
The Mazda Command Center control interface allows drivers to keep their attention on the road ahead while seamlessly controlling and selecting functions within Mazda Connect to access content on your iPhone.
The Mazda Connect feature is operated exclusively through the ergonomically placed and innovative rotary Commander Control dial, shortcut buttons, volume knob and the easy to reach steering-wheel controls.
Which Mazda Models Come with Apple CarPlay?
The short answer is that every new Mazda model includes Apple CarPlay as standard. Owners of older models can always check to see if there is the Apple CarPlay icon on their Mazda's infotainment touchscreen. For some older Mazda models with Mazda Connect, you can install Apple CarPlay for an extra cost, even as early as 2014.
